Hot Pink Lipstick

GET THE LOOK: "Lauren thought fuchsia lips would be fun to try for the finale of The Hills," said Lauren Conrad's makeup artist Amy Nadine. "It adds a pop of color that really electrifies the face."

Berry Lipstick

GET THE LOOK: Whether you call it raspberry, cassis, currant, or plum, Drew Barrymore's lip color is deliciously glam. Instead of opting for a severe red, she wore a purple-tinted berry to play up her whimsical girly look. 
INSIDER TRICK: When sporting a berry lip, opt for a blush in the same color family, like pink or wine, instead of peach.  

Bold Lips and Ivory Skin

Drew Barrymore looked more than fine at a screening of Everybody's Fine in Hollywood. To perfect her skin, makeup artist Debra Ferullo blended moisturizer with shimmery foundation on her cheekbones, then followed with matte foundation on the rest of the face. "Choose a foundation that matches your skin perfectly so that you don't have to use it all over," she says. And as for those gorgeous tomato red lips? "I gave the tube to Drew so she could retouch throughout the night." 

Berry Stained Lips

If you have fair skin like Drew Barrymore, embracing the deep purple lip stains from the runways can seem like a bit of a stretch. A simple solution? Go with a hue that's more raspberry than blackberry, like the actress did for the London premiere of Going the Distance—and apply it with your fingertip for a more lived-in, natural vibe. 

Hot Pink Lipstick

Bold lipstick is definitely having a moment, but punchy hues aren’t restricted just to the younger crowd. At the Game Changepremiere in New York City, Julianne Moorewore a bright pink lip. We loved how the actress made the high-octane shade more age-appropriate with its clean application, and by pairing it with a neutral eye. “Julianne actually taught me to use more blue-toned hues for redheads, because it gives a striking contrast against her complextion, and the warmth of her hair,” said makeup artist Pati Dubroff, who works with the star. To prevent feathering, Dubroff advises lining lips with a cool rose shade —not a matching bright pencil—before applying lipstick. “You don’t want the lip line to jump out at you, or interfere with the intense shade. A cool pink would be best, as it blends with the lip color, but can be used with other shades as well.”

Nude Lip Gloss

At a winter dinner in Los Angles, Kate Beckinsale sported a bouncy, bouffant-ish ponytail and shimmery neutral makeup. What can you learn from this look? Two things: First, when you've got a flashy hairstyle—think braids or buns or ultra-volume—it's best to let your makeup take a backseat. Second, just because it's winter and your skin is dry, doesn't mean your makeup needs to be similarly dull. Beckinsale opted for a nude lip, but by topping it with a wet, shiny gloss, perked up the low-key tone. When you're applying foundation, blot a bit on your mouth. Top with a rich gloss and you're good to go. 

Winter Lips

At the premiere of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Sandra Bullock’s makeup artist Angela Levin used Chanel products to create what she called a “modern, sexy, simple and effortless look.” We loved the way her lips were just one shade darker than the standard nude. Levin said she opted for something that was noticeable but didn’t take over her whole face. "I moisturized her lips with a balm and followed with a satiny lipstick. I topped them off with another coat of balm to add moisture but not too much shine.” How did she ensure the star stayed smiling throughout the night? “In her evening purse, I surprised her with a sheer finish lipstick for touch-ups.” 

Soft Orange Lipstick

Orange lipstick may sound frightful, but one glance at Eva Mendes at the premiere of Last Night in New York City this May changed our minds. Thanks to pinky undertones, the shade isn't harsh or garish, and it feels playful when paired with a cheery matching top. If you're experimenting with a new hue, top it with a swipe of gloss. The added shine is more forgiving than a strict matte finish.

Matching Lipstick

Kristen Bell showed off a perfectly ladylike look at the premiere of House of Lies with crème peach on her lips and a blush in a coordinated tone. Try the matchy-matchy look with a pale pink lip and rosy cheeks or even shades of mauve or coral. Bell sported some shimmer and a few false lashes on the eyes but depending on the severity of the hue, a more dramatic smoky eye would work, too. 

Pink Lipstick

At InStyle’s Golden Globes event, Nina Dobrev's makeup artist Ricky Wilson was inspired by her feminine floral dress. "It's all about dewy skin, flushed cheeks and a splash of pink on the lips," said Wilson, who used Dior products to create the look. We loved the way the rosy pout stood out—some pink lipstick is either too bright or too neutral. "I started by applying a balm to make sure the lips were moist. Lipstick tends to cake if the lips are dry," he explains. Next he created a stain-effect by applying the lipstick with his ring finger instead of directly from the tube, concentrating color in the center of the mouth and working outwards to the corners. Wilson finished off with a smoothing lip polish to create "a lip that compliments the total look and makes a statement." Mission accomplished! 

Frosted Pink Lipstick

If you think of frosted lipstick as an instant no, take a look at Kristin Davis at the premiere of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. Her pale pink lip had just the right amount of shimmer. Frosty formulas are making a comeback as a perfect wintery look. Davis made it a part of her signature feminine style with a strapless cocktail dress and full lashes, but these soft-statement lips would work equally well with vamp-worthy smoky eyes and a black pantsuit. 

Orange Lips

At a Vanity Fair Party, it was Emmy Rossum’s aqua Jenny Packham dress that inspired her makeup artist, Amy Nadine to choose a pop of lip color, “We knew we wanted the makeup to be fun and Tropicana inspired, but still wearable and pretty.” Nadine says anyone can do a bright lip, “as long as you keep the rest of your features understated and natural.” She lined Rossum’s entire mouth with an orange liner and then layered a creamy tangerine shade on top. Master the look now and wear it through spring and summer. 

Perfect Nude Lipstick

At the 2012 Academy Awards in Los Angeles, red carpet expert Penelope Cruzturned out a spot-on look: Retro set hair courtesy of hairstylist Andy LeCompte, and pitch-perfect makeup to match, courtesy of Matthew VanLeeuwen. Using Lancome products, VanLeeuwen created a modern take on '20s glamour with lush eye makeup, a warm complexion, and muted nude lips. Keep in mind that nude lipstick is not one size fits all: Because of Cruz's natural olive complexion, the makeup artist filled in her lips with a bronzey pencil before topping it with a neutral mauve lipstick. 

Pale Pink Lips

We love the opaque texture of Carrie Underwood’s pink lips at the Nordstrom Symphony fashion show—it lends a light color an extra pop. To get the look, blot your lips with a few drops of your liquid foundation using a makeup sponge. Then line and apply a crème consistency lip color. To get a high shine finish like Underwood’s, glide a glossy top coat and smack your lips together to finish off the look.

Shape up your lips

accentuate the shape of your lips, but also to keep your lipstick from feathering.

1. Begin applyling lipliner at the center of your natural upper lip line to define the bow then work toward the outer corners to complete the line.

2. Start at one corner of your bottom lip then follow your natural lip line all the way to the other corner.

Tip: Choose a lipliner that matches your lipstick or a flesh tone shade for a soft, natural look.

Tip: To get plumper, pinker looking lips, do not touch up by drawing a hard lip line; smudge it so lips look fuller! For a more dramatic fullness, choose a lipstick shade with a hint of frost.

Tip: To avoid lipstick on your teeth, put your index finger in your mouth and then draw it out slowly with your mouth closed. What you see on your finger is what would have ended up on your teeth!

Fruity Lip Gloss

2 Tbls solid shortening 
1 Tbls fruit-flavored powdered drink mix 
35 mm film container

Mix shortening & drink mix together in a microwave safe bowl till smooth! 
Place in microwave on high for 30 seconds until mix becomes a liquid! 
Pour into clean film container, or any other small airtight container!

Place mix into fridge for 20-30 minutes or till firm!
